It is hard to discuss without giving it away. So, <<<SPOILER ALERT - DON'T READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU PLAN ON WATCHING THE MOVIE>>>!!!! The ending has a "rapture" feel to it, and also a New World feel to it. Having a 2nd Adam & Eve to propagate an otherwise lost humanity, or a Noah & wife to propagate humanity after God's wrath destroys everything else. Very interesting. I enjoyed it, but my family hated the ending because it involved aliens in the stead of God.
I'm not your standard run-of-the-mill premillennial dispensationalist. So, I'm not attached to some of the most popular apocalyptic views that are portrayed in many Hollywood films & even Christian movies. Primarily, I believe the Kingdom of God is at hand now, in us, and we propagate it through the preaching of Jesus Christ as the only way to Father, and by the demonstration of His Dominion by signs & wonders. Healing, of course, is the most natural and most common expression of Christ's Dominion of Love (i.e. Kingdom Rulership).
Thus,
The Knowing, became one of my favorite sci-fi movies! There is a rescue & hope at the end. Plus you have people demonstrating the deepest love there is: to lay down their lives for their friends (
John 15:13).
A friend of mine often tells me there is only one story to tell: A Messiah One. He simply means that in every movie there is a hero/heroine who demonstrates Messiah-like character, in giving his/her life for someone else in order to save them.
Jesus, kill me with your compassion.
