As Andrew Wommack pointed out, the comment that 'silver and gold' have I none, may have simply meant they didn't have their wallet with them ! They would have had to have money to live and to travel. Jesus had supporters who provided for him, although he could have used his ministry to make himself rich he didn't.
You need money too. However its the attitude to it that's important. We are stewards of what God gives us. If you give all the money to someone else is it the Holy Spirit telling you to do this, or are you doing it out of fear ? I suspect if the giving is motivated by a worry about having wealth, rather than motivated by the Spirit to give to a specific person or cause, it might not be God, but you'll have to judge this yourself.
I don't think stewardship is necessarily about being poor, or about being rich. There are clear principles about not having more than we need (if you have two coats give one away etc.), about lending and not expecting back, but being poor and lacking doesn't benefit anyone if we aren't in ministry. It puts us into a place where we need help from others. Jesus couldn't work as a carpenter when he began his 3 1/2 years of ministry. He needed support from others during this time, but before that he provided for himself (and probably his family) working at the family business. Supernatural provision was also available, but so was natural hard work part of what was required for him to obtain money. It would be nice if all we had to do was give a large sum of money away to a televangelist to obtain 100x what we gave, unfortunately this is not so. The scripture about receiving back 100 fold is in the context of giving to your enemies, not to those in ministry - particularly those who want to blow it all on a private jet.
Roger states in his excellent books on finance, that you should not give up large sums of money on a whim, but it has to be the Holy Spirit that motivates. You can be a good steward of any money you receive and do good with it - which can also be spending some of it on yourself !
Hope this helps,
Best wishes

The clearer I can see Jesus, the more confident I get.
